Frequently AskedQuestions,
Answered Plainly.

The things clients ask us most, in the words we'd use over coffee.

AnswersThe Short Version, Before We Meet.

A few common questions from people considering whether we're the right fit for their situation.

  • That's the most common starting point we see. An initial conversation is usually enough to sort out what needs attention first and what can wait.

  • Earlier is better. Decisions made during a settlement are difficult to revisit afterward, and the tax treatment of what gets divided is easier to plan for before the agreement is signed than after.

  • Which towns carry the lower property tax rates, how Massachusetts treats retirement income compared with the state you're leaving, how residency gets established, and the practical differences between towns that affect what living here actually costs.

  • Not at all. Clients often come to us while still working, five to ten years out, which leaves time to plan ahead of the transition rather than react once it arrives.

  • The work is organized around life transitions rather than around a list of services. Each transition carries its own tax and planning considerations, and we've built a defined approach for each one instead of applying the same template to all of them.

  • Cape Cod and the greater Boston area make up the core of the client base, which also includes clients who split time between Massachusetts and second homes in Florida or other states.

  • A second perspective on an existing plan is a reasonable place to start, particularly around a specific transition or decision. A conversation can help clarify whether a fuller relationship makes sense from there.

  • We work with a limited number of clients at a time, which allows for more attention on each relationship. Fit tends to matter more than a specific number, and that's a better conversation to have directly than to guess at.

  • We operate on a fee-only basis and don't earn commissions from any product. Because of that structure, a recommendation reflects your situation rather than a product tied to compensation on our end.
